Introducing Thrive Impact Fund

Since 2014, Thriving Non-Profits has been building capacity for non-profits and social enterprises through learning, consulting, and coaching.

As experienced impact sector leaders, we understand the financial challenges faced by non-profits and social enterprises looking to grow.

We launched Thrive Impact Fund in 2021 to address this challenge and help organizations obtain financing for impactful opportunities that are currently overlooked and under-capitalized.

At Thriving Non-Profits, we believe that accessing capital should be empowering, not extractive. Non-profits and social enterprises deserve financing tools that are relationship-driven, not transactional and focused on impact, long-term sustainability and mission alignment.

HELP ME FIND FINANCING

Why understanding the full range of capital available matters for non-profit growth

Financing a revenue-generating program, social enterprise, or asset purchase requires the right type of capital that supports launch, growth, and scale.

Traditional fundraising sources, like grants, rarely provide adequate resources for entrepreneurial, growth-based opportunities. Non-profits that understand the full range of financing options available—beyond grants and traditional fundraising—can access more opportunities to support new programs, expand their reach, and scale their impact.

Frequently asked questions

Have questions about the finacing we offer for non-profits and social enterprises?

Our FAQ section covers a few of the key things you need to know.

Thrive Impact Fund is an impact investment fund that invests in impact organizations based in or primarily serving British Columbia. They can be non-profits. for-profit social enterprises, or co-ops.

Thrive Impact Fund provides debt instruments to investees in the form of unsecured loans, including term loans, interest-only loans, and revenue-based financing.

These financial tools are tailored to your organization’s projected growth profile and repayment capacity, focusing on shared success.

Traditional lenders often require collateral or guarantees before approving financing. For many non-profits and social enterprises—even those with strong, revenue-generating potential—this requirement becomes a major barrier, preventing them from accessing conventional debt financing.

Thrive Impact Fund is a risk-tolerant lender. If you qualify for our unsecured loans, we will not require personal guarantees. We believe an investee’s repayment capacity starts with matching the right financial tool to the right project, and we provide hands-on support to help you find the best fit for your circumstances and financing needs.

Thrive Impact Fund does not finance start-ups. We provide financing for organizations with at least a one-year track record of proven earned revenue.

Existing revenue streams are necessary to ensure the repayment of Thrive Impact Fund’s loans. Grants or other funding may be better suited to support start-ups or program pilots.

We believe in financing entire projects, and we know that organizations need capital to purchase assets and equipment as well as day-to-day operations.

With that perspective, Thrive Impact Fund’s financing includes working capital to cover your expert service costs, staff expenses, inventory, etc. Expenses like these are eligible for financing.

Our application fee is $250 to cover our administrative costs, including application processing and due diligence. If your financing is approved, there is a 1.5% drawdown fee and additional document fees to cover our legal costs.

At Thrive Impact Fund, we know that capita alone is not enough. Amazing organizations and enterprises succeed with the support of a community of peers and strong mentorship. That's why we bring together the power of capacity, community, and expertise to help our investees succeed. Here’s what to expect:

Community: For the first year of investment, investees join a peer community on a monthly basis, to share lessons learned, build connections, and learn from experts on areas of business development and growth. This peer community is nurtured and accessible for the entire duration of the investment relationship.

Expert Support: Thrive Impact Fund provides expert support and coaching to our investees to help them realize opportunities and/or mitigate unforeseen challenges. As part of our active management practices, investees will have regular check-ins with Thrive Impact Fund staff to connect them to the appropriate mentor or coach, depending on their needs.
